삼성 신형 노트북 9 아쉬운 점.

  삼성이 두 종류의 2016년도형 노트북 9를 발표했다. 13.3인치 노트북은 840g의 경악스러운 무게를 자랑하며, 반면 15인치 모델의 경우는 1.29kg으로 충분히 가볍기는 하지만 인상적인 무게는 아니다. 

  시장에서 경쟁하게 될 상대를 꼽아보자면 LG의 그램이 있겠는데, 13.3인치 모델의 경우는 삼성 노트북 9 쪽이 무게에서 더 경쟁력이 있겠다. 그러나 15인치 모델 같은 경우에는 LG의 그램이 15.6인치로 화면도 약간 더 크면서 무게도 980g으로 삼성의 15인치 모델보다 약 30% 가벼워서 폼팩터 관점에서는 더 우수해 보인다. 그러나 일반적으로 소비자들의 인식과 실제 제품도 LG의 그램 시리즈보다 삼성의 하이엔드 랩탑인 노트북 9이 마감이나 완성도 측면에서 더 좋다고 여겨지기 때문에, 15인치 모델의 경우에도 LG의 그램보다 삼성의 노트북 9을 선호하는 사람들도 있을 것이다. 그러나 삼성의 노트북 9는 전통적으로 LG의 그램보다 높은 가격 포지셔닝을 하고 있기 때문에 이번 2016년도 모델도 가격이 경쟁의 관건이 될 것이다.

  꾸준히 수요가 있는 이런 프리미엄 라인업을 업데이트해주고 폼팩터를 향상시켜주는 삼성의 노력은 좋지만, 가장 큰 아쉬운점은 바로 저장장치의 용량이다. 삼성의 노트북 9 같은 경우에는 저장장치 (SSD)의 용량으로 128GB나 256GB 둘 중 하나를 선택하게 되어 있는데, 상당히 실망스러운 점이다. 통상적인 용도로 노트북을 사용하더라도 요즘에는 게임, 프로그램, 동영상 및 사진 자료의 용량이 이전보다 훨씬 높아져 256GB의 저장 용량은 어렵지 않게 쓰게 되는 것이 현실이며, 따라서 1TB 정도는 아니라도 512GB 정도의 저장 용량을 선택할 수 있게 해주는 것이 합당해 보인다. 특히 초경량으로 출시되는 노트북들의 경우에는 폼팩터의 향상을 위해 사용자의 업그레이드 용이성이 불가피하게 희생되기 때문에, 초기 저장장치 용량의 선택지를 늘려주는 것이 좋았을 것이다. (예를 들면 맥북 에어나 신형 레티나 맥북 프로의 경우 기존의 맥북 프로 모델들에 비해 폼팩터는 좋아졌지만 수리용이성은 훨씬 나빠졌다. 물론 용량장사의 효과도 있다.)

  오히려 더 가벼운 LG 그램 15.6인치의 경우에도 M.2 규격의 512GB ssd를 선택할 수 있게 하는 것을 보면, 삼성도 충분히 할 수 있었을 것인데 하지 않았다는 것이 제일 큰 아쉬운 점이다.

  다른 사소한 아쉬운 점이라고 한다면, 15인치 노트북 9 모델의 경우 백라이트를 선택할 수 없다는 점인데... 이것은 저장 용량에 비하면 훨씬 사소한 점이라 이것때문에 구매 결정을 바꿀 정도는 아니라고 본다.
